Shift Divide and Shuffle

Overview

This article helps you understand how SchedulePro helps attain full coverage across multiple jobs when qualification constraints prevent a full shift from being covered by a single person.

Shuffle

  • Worker A is qualified for Job 1.
  • Worker B is qualified for Job 1 and 2.
  • Worker B is scheduled for Job 1.
  • There is an open requirement for Job 2.

When trying to find coverage for Job 2, worker A cannot be assigned to that job because they are not qualified. However, workers can be shuffled around to cover both jobs.

SchedulePro can shuffle the assignments to cover Job 2.

  1. Worker B is moved from Job 1 to Job 2
  2. Now the opening is for Job 1.
  3. Worker A can be scheduled to Job 1, allowing both jobs to be filled.

Shift Divide and Shuffle

SchedulePro can now offer the same shuffling option for half shifts and help you automate the assignment of half shifts while respecting qualifications, requirements, seniority, OT hours. etc.

Let's see an example:

We have:

  • 3 open jobs and each requires their own qualifications.
  • 2 workers are already assigned to the shift.
  • a couple of workers are qualified to cover overtime for the first half of the open requirement (this may be referred to as staying over).

Qualified

  • Workers A and B are assigned to the shift.
  • Worker A is assigned to Job 3 and Worker B is assigned to Job 1.
  • We have an opening on Job 2.

  • Worker C and Worker D could stay over to cover the first half of a job.
  • Since only Worker D is qualified, with the current divide option, worker D will be the one listed as available to cover the first half of Job 2.

Problem: We are asking a senior person to stay over when we have a junior person that could stay over if we perform a shuffle.

  • We need to move the opening to Job 3 (the junior person is only qualified for that).

With the divide and shuffle feature, SchedulePro will give you two different options to cover the first half of Job 2:

  1. The regular divide shift (no shuffle): showing worker D
  2. The divide shift with shuffle: showing worker C with a 1 step shuffle (with Worker A)
    1. Worker A will be moved, for the first half of their shift, from Job 3 to Job 2.
    2. The opening now will be in Job 3 and Worker C can cover that first half of that job since they are qualified.
